Londinium Matutinus Council No.202 - Welcomes District Grand Prefect

The day was Grand, the sun was High and it was about to get Priestly!!

Members of Londinium Matutinus Council No.202 gathered in the Hong Kong room on the 3rd floor of Mark Masons' Hall on a bright and sunny day for their May meeting. Council opened, the District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro. Colin Woodcock was then welcomed into the meeting accompanied by his delegation. The DGP greeted the Council, then introduced and thanked his delegation for their support.

Also visiting the Council was Muggins! aka M. Ven. Bro. Matt Fletcher, Sovereign Grand Master of the Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada.

Unfortunately, due to a train strike in the Oxford area the candidate for Grand High Priest was unable to get to the meeting. But no matter, the WM W. Bro. Neil Campbell and his team were raring to go and with the help of Bro. Erol Hussein volunteering to be candidate, the ceremony of Grand High Priest was demonstrated most capably by the WM and his team and orchestrated by the Directer of Ceremonies W. Bro. Peter Warner.

Other Council business completed the Council was closed and members and visitors retired to the bar before partaking in a light lunch!! (It was light, but is was also very moreish and many went for seconds and thirds, so not so light after all).

Wine taken, Toasts made and still only 2:30pm, they toasted to their next merry meeting.

May 4th be with you - Goose & Gridiron Council No.275

Saturday May 4th the only London Council that meets on a weekend met at its usual venue of Mark Masons’ Hall.

Starting at 11am the first main job was to admit four new members to the order. The second main order of business was to work the degree, “Grand Tilers of Solomon.” This Degree is extremely dramatic, set in the secret vault beneath the Temple. It reflects on the danger of hasty judgment. Plus has the longest knocks of any degree I know!

After finishing a few usual masonic admin items on the agender the Council was closed by 12.15pm ready for refreshments and a light festive board luncheon.

The Brigadier Galloway Council Welcomes the Deputy District Grand Prefect

On Friday 12th April, The Brigadier Galloway Council No.126 welcomed the Deputy District Grand Prefect W. Bro. Steven Warwick and a delegation of District Grand Officers to their meeting at Mark Masons' Hall.

The Worshipful Master conducted the St. Lawrence the Martyr degree to introduce Bro. Michael Correa into the order. He then conducted the degree of Knight of Constantinople for Michael and one other candidate. With both ceremonies being delivered with much aplomb by the WM and the lectures in both ceremonies delivered by W. Bro. Peter Warner.

Work completed, all retired to partake of a joyous festive board before toasting to their next merry meeting.

Spring Lunch - 18:15 to Waterloo

Around 40 Members of the District along with their partners, families and friends assembled in the bar at Mark Masons' Hall for the AMD District of London Spring Lunch Event. The bar was buzzing with greetings and chatter. Attendees were then called to make their way down to the Earl of Euston room which was bathed in the spring sunshine through the large windows which look out over St. James and Pall Mall.

After lunch, Richard Criddle introduced Mark Smith as our speaker for the event. Mark proceeded to engage the room with an enthralling account of the Battle of Waterloo. Mark strode around the room building a picture of the battle field, using the dining tables to represent three of the key areas of the battle. Mark gave interesting background on the main protagonists, and a very descriptive account of how the battle built and was won and lost at key points. There was also some very gory details of what was a "bloody" battle. At the conclusion of his talk Mark received a rousing round of applause and then took some questions from those in attendance.

The event concluded with the District Grand Prefect, Colin Woodcock MBE, thanking Mark for his talk, everyone who attended the event and to Richard Criddle for organising the event.
