Spring Message from the District Grand Prefect

Spring isDSC04922 here and managing to gain a tentative foothold over the winter; it is not easy for Nature and the cold snaps are playing havoc with my young plants and seedlings, most have survived - despite my attempts to look after them.  We have some Egyptian Geese living near us, they are good neighbours but are terrible bullies to the other wildfowl on the lake.  They already have goslings and manage to keep all the food I throw down for them.  Life eh…

Allied Masonry continues to grow and thrive in London and we have our own new baby.  Our big news of the year, so far, is the recent Consecration of The Goose and Gridiron Council No 275.  The Grand Master and his team conducted the ceremony in a magnificent manner; over 100 people were present and most stayed on for a really nice lunch with lots of laughter and happiness.  We have already held our first meeting and five new members were Admitted, come along to visit the Council when we next meet on 21st October.

We have had a number of Official visits so far and all have been well-attended and good fun, we have been received with great kindness and companionship from every Council and I think them for their hospitality.

We recently held our third lunchtime get together for our wives, girlfriends, partners and any other kind of relationship (we are very inclusive).  We chose Mark Masons’ Hall as our location following my promise to some wives who had never been to the Carvery, 50 of us took over the Euston Room and began with a very interesting historical talk from a distinguished academic and then enjoyed an impressive lunch.

Following this success, I am looking into another event later in the year, we may visit a well know tourist location (!!) or book a Guided Walking tour and hold it in the evening so that those who work can attend– stay posted.

We will also repeat our Secretaries dinner where we can discuss District matters with those who successfully run the administration of our Councils; this will be on 24th July.

Another success was the dinner for new members; this will be repeated on 19th July, look out for information on this later in the year.  Last years were very enjoyable and valuable for me, I learnt some important things from those who are new to the Order and we have taken on board some of the comments made.

The Grand AMD meeting this year is on Tuesday 24th October at Freemasons’ Hall and our District Meeting is on Saturday 18th November at Mark Masons’ Hall.  Please support both; good numbers make a good meeting.

Do not forget that our website holds details of all these events as well as full details of meetings and District news can be found at amdlondon.org

Enjoy the summer break and return refreshed and ready to enjoy another year of Allied Masonry.

All best wishes to you all and I look forward to seeing you at your councils throughout the year.
